Day 140: LOL KKK
Posted by Sarah in blog, fun, rage, social tragedy, task, this book will change your life
Sure, it's normally wrong to aggravate and annoy businesses and social clubs, but what if the entire world supports your decision? Does it then become socially and morally acceptable to mess with the bad guys? Is it wrong to ding-dong-ditch the principal but okay to do it to the school bully?I'll let you make that decision for yourself. But personally, I never supported the idea of "turning the other cheek". I'm all for picking on those who pick on others. Comeupance is so much more rewarding than tolerance.

Day 135: Subtext
Posted by Sarah in blog, education, social comedy, social tragedy, task, this book will change your life
Whether it's a finacial contract or a social conversation, learning to wade through life's subtext may prove useful one day.- That line that says "additional fees may be incurred" means you wil be charged for the "convenience" of everything from shipping to surcharges.
- The girl who tells you she'd "rather not work" even though she doesn't have children is a golddigger looking for someone to support her.
- That guy who says he's "not ready for commitment" is seeing someone else and hasn't decided who he likes more.
- The boss who says a job was "tailored for your unique talents" means no one else wanted to do it.
Today's the day to stop getting walked on. It's also the day to be direct with others. You've translated their subtext, now sit back and decode your own.
Day 126: Consumer Rights
Posted by Sarah in blog, education, money, social tragedy, task, this book will change your life
First, read up: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/consumer.shtmThen, if you feel you have been wronged in any way by any business, today is the day to get even and voice your complaint. Whether it's a coupon they didn't take, a defective product, false advertising or just plain old-fashioned swindling, you do not have to stand for it. Know your rights. They should never be an "inconvenience" to you.
If taxpayers are expected to "bail out" companies who cannot run their businesses properly, then we better start standing up for our expectations. If Ford is getting a bailout, then I want environmentally friendly vehicles from them. If the MTA here in NY wants to hike fares then they better provide on-time service and clean the stations.
Too many companies are used to getting something for nothing (and in some cases, becoming monopolies who are allowed to get away with near-criminal price gouging). Get a return on your investment today. Speak up and make a difference.
I like this task. Though I modified it a bit from the book (anyone who has the book will know why), I still think you can learn a valuable lesson in empathy without having to turn it into a religious experiment.I have been worrying about the homeless a lot this past week. Mainly because it's so cold outside and I know they don't have a heater to go home and complain about being "too high" like I do. It's incredibly humbling when I stop and think about it. Though I have done several things in my past to try and help clothe or feed the homeless in San Antonio, I've never done anything up here in NYC for them.
Today, I will actually reach out and do something... Bring me your 'cold and huddled masses' and I will give them food and a blanket. :)
Day 92: Last Will and Testament
Posted by Sarah in blog, future, social tragedy, task, this book will change your life

Too many people wait until the literal last moment to compose their wills. As a result, greedy relatives end up filing lawsuits and lawyers fill their pockets. Spare your loved ones this fate by setting up a simple form to apportion your worldly goods. Worry about your fancy will later. This one is just in case something sudden an unexpected happens. Afterall, you never know.
I appreciate the idea behind this. And had I any "worldly goods" I would surely dispense them evenly. I made a list of my family members. I made an even shorter list of my "stuff". It's not all that debatable at this point. Is this just a "problem" for rich people? I mean, all of my "assests" have a clear owner should I pass away.
Maybe Jorge would steal my book collection but I can't think of anything else worth fighting over...
Day 90: Currency
Posted by Sarah in blog, money, social tragedy, task, this book will change your life

The Bangladeshi Taka is currently under pressure at 63tk to the USD. If every blogger buys 100 takas this year ($1.56 USD) and then sell them on December 31st at 4:55 pm Bangladeshi time, the taka won't be worth the paper it's printed on!
There were further details but I'm not posting them here. How horrendous! I find the idea an interesting one, but not one I'll be taking part in. Not that I particularly care about Bangladesh one way or another, but that I know there are hardworking people in any country who would be devastated by this exchange collapse. :/
Day 86: Fear Embraced

"Go to the wrong side of the tracks."
Wherever you live there is that place. The one they warn you not to venture near after nightfall. The neighborhood, the house, the village everyone whispers and warns you about.Go there today.
Conquer your fear of the unfamiliar and embrace something new. I'm going to Spanish Harlem later. It always sounds so beautiful in books that I have to wonder whose skewed view told me to fear it. I'm sure the buildings and people there are just as interesting as they've been described. Embrace, Conquer and Quell this fear today and we will all be braver and more open-minded for it.
Day 74: Express Yourself
Posted by Sarah in blog, social comedy, social tragedy, task, this book will change your life
Unfortunately for you readers, I was at Comic Con all day Saturday. However, you should feel completely free to express yourself on any given day. Honest Expression is a dying art in this day and age of political correctness and its rampant censorship of free thought. If you hate something, admit it. If you love something, scream it from the rooftops. Do not fear rejection nor acceptance. Just love who you are and someone on this crazy planet will love you for it in return.

Go ahead. It's not that hard really. Just be more... aware of the same sex today.
I have a secret to confess. No, I'm not homosexual. However, everytime I meet someone who is vehemently against or full of hatred for people based solely on their sexual orientation, I wish they would fall in love with and marry a transgender person so they can experience and learn from the gray areas of life.
I honestly believe if people were more educated about biology, they would be less judgemental. Fact is, the more you learn about autism, or chemical imbalances or hormones then the more you understand that not everyone is 'wired' to like the same things. Whether it's clothing, food or partners; it's all personal taste and emotion.
If homosexuals are expected to work and pay taxes to fund our courthouses, then they should be allowed to get married in them. Equal treatment means equal treatment no matter how you slice it.
I will end this rant by reminding you that your religious right does not and never will override your oath as a lawyer, judge or doctor. If you don't believe in treating people equally based on their "sins", then you should have chosen another profession or lived in a less tolerant country. I'm pretty sure murder is a "sin" in your church too, but doctors are still expected to save their lives.
Task 1I - Insects
Posted by Sarah in animals, blog, social tragedy, task, this book will change your life
Yes yes... I missed out on yesterday. But to defend myself, I had the flu and still have the flu and will continue to have the flu because it's mother nature's gift to me every year around my birthday. But that brings me to Today's Task:
I hate to admit it, but I picked this one because it's very easy to do when your appetite is destroyed by bouts of sneezing and coughing. It made me wonder though, while I was searching for an image other than skeletal ethiopians being eyed by vultures, what would I ever REALLY go on a hunger strike for.
This is my life...
